Salon Establishments in Mangaluru has come under scrutiny following a disturbing attack on a unisex salon by members of the right-wing group Rama Sene. Alleging immoral activities, the group, led by Prasad Attavar, vandalized the establishment near the KSRTC bus stand and threatened & assaulted its staff- which included women. The incident resulted in significant property damage and has raised alarms across the industry. Police later arrested 14 individuals, including Attavar, involved in the attack.

In response, the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) announced plans to inspect salons, beauty parlours, spas, and massage centres to ensure compliance with licensing regulations. Mayor Manoj Kumar emphasized that these inspections aim to identify unauthorized operations while reaffirming that law enforcement i.e, police department will handle any illegal activities uncovered.

For salon owners, this incident is a stark reminder of the importance of maintaining proper licensing and operational transparency. While the MCC’s inspections are seen as a proactive measure, industry leaders are voicing concerns about the potential misuse of such allegations to justify vigilantism.

The salon industry, often vulnerable to public perception, is calling for stronger legal protections to prevent harassment and ensure safe working environments. Addressing these concerns is vital for restoring trust and supporting the sector’s continued growth.
