One of the biggest achievements of the Beauty & Wellness Sector Skill Council (B&WSSC) has been securing a place for the Beauty & Wellness (B&W) industry in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) curriculum. Once seen as a family-driven trade, the B&W sector is now undergoing a major transformation in India. Traditionally, children followed in their parents’ footsteps, stepping into roles as entrepreneurs, hairstylists, or makeup artists. However, with no structured education, many young minds overlooked the industry as a career choice.
CBSE has changed this perception by officially integrating Beauty & Wellness into the vocational curriculum for Classes 6 to 12. Announced in a January 10 circular, this progressive step aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP 2020), giving students an early introduction to this thriving sector. For the first time, learners can voluntarily explore B&W as a career path.
B&WSSC celebrated this milestone:
“B&WSSC is thrilled & thankful to CBSE for recognizing Beauty & Wellness sector as a key focus area for integrating skills and vocational education with academics under NEP 2020! A big shout out to CBSE for empowering students with opportunities to explore career-ready skills in this vibrant and growing industry. Together, we are shaping the future of skilled India!”
This initiative serves as a stepping stone, allowing students to gain practical experience early on. With this foundation, they can pursue higher education and advanced training, enhancing industry standards.
By fostering skill-based learning, CBSE is attracting fresh talent and innovation to an industry set for exponential growth, ensuring a skilled workforce ready to shape the future.
