NIVEA is taking a bold step to combat social isolation with its new initiative, NIVEA CONNECT. This global mission aims to educate and support communities, organizations, and individuals worldwide, reducing the stigma around social isolation and fostering meaningful human connections through three key actions:
- Local Projects: By 2026, NIVEA will establish NIVEA CONNECT projects with partners in 40 countries.
- Global Engagement: Leveraging its global presence, NIVEA will communicate and engage with communities on the issue.
- Collaborative Efforts: NIVEA will join forces with scientists, experts, and organizations to fight social isolation.
The Alarming Reality
A global survey by NIVEA, involving 8,000 participants across eight countries, highlights the severity of the issue:
- 86% believe isolation and loneliness are growing problems.
- 25% feel isolated often or always.
- 20% lack a single close friend.
The Health Impact
The consequences of social isolation are profound:
- 29% increased risk of heart disease.
- 32% increased risk of stroke.
- 48% report a decline in physical health.
- 53% experience decreased mental health, leading to higher risks of depression and anxiety.
- 58% feel helpless.
- 56% withdraw from social activities.
- 46% neglect important responsibilities.
