Chandigarh Salon GST Raids: Compliance Demands Rise

High-end salons in Chandigarh were recently hit by large-scale GST raids, putting the spotlight on Salon GST compliance for beauty business owners. Excise and Central GST teams raided more than a dozen prominent salons across sectors 8, 9, 26, and 35 following complaints of GST evasion. The raids targeted establishments providing premium services such as hair styling, makeup, spa treatments, and bridal packages—often charging substantial fees while allegedly not depositing the mandatory 18% GST to the government.

Investigators found that many salons collected payments in cash, issued no bills, and concealed service revenue, sometimes misrepresenting transactions as product sales. Some used “discount offers” as a tactic to provide services without including GST in the billing. The teams have begun scrutinizing three years’ worth of returns and transaction details, expecting significant tax recoveries and heavy penalties for violators.

Authorities encourage all salon owners to register for GST, display GSTIN prominently, and train staff in proper billing practices. At the same time, it is required to present a bill for every service provided to the customers, ensuring ethical business practices and protection of consumer rights.

As the Excise Department signals further inspections, maintaining strict Salon GST compliance has become more important than ever. Salon’s can avoid penalties and support the industry’s reputation by following best practices and remaining vigilant with their accounting.

The Chandigarh Salon GST raids serve as a crucial reminder: for beauty businesses, compliance is not optional, and ethical practices must be at the core of every transaction.
