An institutional visit to Cosmo Academy brings beauty brands and salon chains together to support training, employment and industry access.
Cosmoprof India has strengthened its engagement with Cosmo Academy – EmpowHER in Beauty through its first official institutional delegation to the Academy at the Prakash Jayantilal Chauhan Foundation Skill Center.
The visit brought attention to the Academy’s work in professional beauty education and its focus on connecting training with employment opportunities. It also highlighted the role of industry participation in creating career pathways for young people entering the beauty sector.
Connecting Training With the Beauty Industry
Cosmo Academy – EmpowHER in Beauty was developed by Cosmoprof India in collaboration with the Prakash Jayantilal Chauhan Foundation to provide professional training to young and disadvantaged people from Mumbai and those from fragile family backgrounds.
The four-month training programme covers three areas: esthetics, hairstyling and bridal makeup. According to Cosmoprof India, more than 95% of students trained by the PJC Foundation have secured employment.
The programme is structured to go beyond classroom training, with the Academy working with companies, salons and retailers to create entry-level employment opportunities and pathways for professional growth.
Beauty Industry Extends Support
The recent institutional delegation also brought together industry stakeholders supporting the Academy and its students.
Beauty Garage has extended its support to the initiative, while Looks Salon, Enrich Beauty and UK-based Truefitt & Hill have pledged products and support towards recruiting graduates.
The involvement of beauty brands and salon chains creates a link between professional training and the requirements of the industry, while giving graduates access to potential employment opportunities.
Cosmoprof’s Role in the Academy
Under its partnership with the PJC Foundation, Cosmoprof India supports the Academy with professional products, including international brands, specialised trainers and global experts.
The initiative also includes educational content, mentorship and activities focused on personal and professional development.
This industry involvement is intended to equip students with practical skills, professional exposure and the resources required to enter the beauty workforce.
Addressing the Skills Gap
The initiative comes against a backdrop of limited access to formal vocational training in India. Cosmoprof India states that only 3.7% of India’s workforce has received formal vocational training.
The beauty and wellness sector employs approximately 12.3 million people, with 28.8% having a technical or vocational background and 7.4% holding a university degree.
As the beauty industry becomes more organised, the demand for trained and multi-skilled professionals is also increasing. Cosmo Academy is positioned as an effort to address this gap through practical, industry-linked training.
From Education to Employment
For Cosmoprof India and the PJC Foundation, the objective extends beyond providing technical skills. The Academy is designed to create a pathway from education to employment by bringing training institutions, product companies, salons and retailers into the same ecosystem.
The recent institutional delegation and participation from Beauty Garage, Looks Salon, Enrich Beauty and Truefitt & Hill add an industry dimension to that model.
With professional training on one side and potential recruitment opportunities on the other, Cosmo Academy – EmpowHER in Beauty is positioning the beauty industry itself as part of the solution to the sector’s skills and employability gap
