Meet the Champions of CMC CAT India: Piyush Valand

In the world of competitive hairdressing, every detail matters—and for Piyush Valand, third-place winner in the coveted Razor Low Fade category at the Eurasia ABMU Golden Cup 2025, it’s all about crafting a perfect fade that suits the individual. As a proud member of CMC CAT India’s history-making team, Piyush’s achievement is rooted in both careful planning and on-the-spot adjustments.

Inspiration and Approach

Piyush’s journey to the podium began with a strong theoretical plan rooted in the fundamentals of fade and skin-fade haircuts. “First, I research which face types suit those styles. But the real spark comes when I meet my live model—I observe his face shape, hair texture, and growth pattern before deciding how best to execute the cut,” he shares. For him, this ability to adapt is crucial: “With live models, no two hair patterns are the same, so I rely on experience and a keen eye for detail to determine the tools, speed, and technique needed for a flawless finish.”

In Kazakhstan last year, Piyush’s original model dropped out at the last moment, but his adaptive spirit prevailed. “What really got me noticed by the judges was using scissors for the top portion”, that earned him fourth place in Kazakhstan, and the lessons carried forward to Armenia and London.

For the Golden Cup in Armenia, Piyush says he finally found the ideal model—someone whose face and hair matched the style he envisioned. “Zero fade doesn’t merge easily; it requires precision to be perfect.” He values the challenge that comes with real people, not dummy heads. “Innovation happens on the spot—your cut must enhance the model’s unique features while staying true to the style.”

Piyush is quick to share credit with his peers and seniors. “I’ve been a barber since 2015, but never competed internationally. Working alongside the pros and representing India for the first time has been life-changing. My seniors were a major source of guidance and support through the process, and this recognition belongs to all of us.”
